Fortifying Hay and Silage
By Arwin V. Mulford / Cuprem NewsOriginally posted on March 3, 2013
With another round of cutting and baling fast approaching in most parts of the country, it’s a good time to think about what you are putting on or in your hay, haylage, silage and high moisture grain to keep the long-term nutritional value of your product high until it is fed. That’s where Cuprem Inc. comes in with a couple of products:
Microbios® Hay Inoculant W/S
Microbios® Silage Inoculant W/S
These two products are geared at controlling the four stages of fermentation.
Expected results are reduced shrinkage, less run off and spoilage and better feed intake and efficiency from the enzymes that are also in our products.
Cuprem, Inc. was one of the first companies in the United States, along with Pioneer and several others, to develop silage inoculants. Over the years, our formula has been modified and improved upon to keep up with the changing times, but we remain a leader in the field.
Our products are encapsulated, which helps to ensure that microorganisms are released at the right time and temperature during the curing and fermentation processes and do what they are intended to do, whether it be to lower the temperature, change the pH, reduce the amount of air or other uses.
For the custom balers and farmers who produce their own hay, haylage, silage and high moisture grains, adding either of these inoculants will help make your product superior and last longer than other custom operations not using our product and improve the feed efficiency and quality of your feed. This will make for happy repeat customers.
If you are a feedlot operator or dairy operator who wants hay, haylage, silage or high moisture grains to last longer and provide more nutritional value for your animals, our products are right for you and are very cost effective. Users of these products estimate an $8 return for every $1 spent.
Make 2013, the year that Microbios® Hay Inoculant W/S and Microbios® Silage InoculantW/S become part of your regular program.
These products can be ordered online at www.cuprem.com, your local feed dealer, or by calling 1-800-228-4253.Nebraska Cattlemen's Showcase

Colostrum Supplement & Replacement
Cuprem manufactures two types of colostrum products because there is a need for two.
CL-Cow Replacer is a complete milk replacer using colostrum as the base ingredient. CL-Cow Replacer mixes easily in water. When used as a colostrum supplement on calves that are going to be placed back on the cow 1- 250 gram package mixed with 2 quarts of lukewarm water is all that’s needed.
When for some reason the calf isn’t nursing the cow within six hours a second 250 gram package with 2 quarts of water is needed. If for some reason the calf is going to become an orphan and not be put back on the cow within 12 hours of birth a 3rd 250 gram package mixed with water is required. The calf should be placed on a good quality milk replacer after the 3rd feeding of CL-Cow Replacer.
Tangelene Colostrum 100 Supplement is designed to be mixed in colostrum or water. Used primarily on dairy calves, Tangelene Colostrum 100 Supplement is packaged in two sizes.
A 500 gram package and a 250 gram package. The 500 gram package when mixed with 2 ½ quarts of water and used as a replacement for colostrum or a 250 gram package mixed with 2 ½ quarts of colostrum and used as a supplement to the colostrum.
Either way, start using a good quality milk replacer and continue until the calf is weaned.
